Test Overview:
This panel includes the following tests:
Carbon Dioxide: CO2 is short for carbon dioxide. Measures the amount of carbon dioxide in the serum, the liquid part of your blood. The majority of CO2 in the human body is in the form of bicarbonate (HCO3-). As a result, the CO2 blood test is a measurement of your blood bicarbonate level.
Chloride: Chloride is also a type of electrolyte. Other electrolytes include potassium, sodium, and carbon dioxide. These compounds aid in the appropriate balance of body fluids and the acid-base balance of the body. This is a measurement of the chloride content of the blood’s fluid part (serum).
Potassium: Potassium is a mineral that the human body requires to function properly. It allows nerves and muscles to communicate with one another. It also aids in the transport of nutrients and waste materials into and out of cells. Potassium-rich foods can assist to counteract some of sodium’s negative effects on blood pressure.
Sodium: Sodium is a mineral that the body needs to function effectively. It is necessary for many bodily functions, including functions of the muscles and nerves.
