Test Overview:
Infections with C. trachomatis are the most common cause of sexually transmitted illnesses in the United States. Cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), epididymitis, and proctitis have all been linked to C. trachomatis. Non-gonococcal urethritis is the most common cause of non-gonococcal urethritis in men. If left untreated, Chlamydial infections have serious repercussions in women. Asymptomatic Chlamydial infections account for around half of all Chlamydial infections.
Gonorrhea is caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonococci). Anterior urethritis with purulent discharge is the most common symptom of this condition in men. The disease is most commonly detected in the cervix in women, although it can also infect the vaginal canal and the uterus.
