Test Overview:
Testosterone is almost entirely bound to transport proteins when it circulates: typically, less than 1-2 percent is free. The main testosterone transport protein is known as sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) or testosterone-estradiol binding globulin (TeBG). Testosterone levels are used to diagnose erectile dysfunction, infertility, gynecomastia, and osteoporosis, as well as to evaluate hormone replacement therapy.
